Catherine Merrill

Catherine Elizabeth (Shaffer) Merrill, 89, of Oakland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 20, 2012. Born on April 12, 1923 in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Bernice O. (Moomaw) Shaffer. Catherine was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and canning. She loved family times, playing music and singing. She also enjoyed attending the Adult Day Care Center while battling Alzheimer's. She is survived by two daughters, Paula M. Shortridge of Oakland and Pamela K. Georg of Grantsville; three grandchildren, Melissa K. Morgan of Oakland, Brittany N. Georg and Justin R. Georg both of Grantsville; one great grandchild, Avery M. Morgan of Oakland; two brothers, Wade and Oliver Shaffer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul Joseph Merrill in 1999; a sister, Eva Hendershot; and a brother, Daryl Shaffer. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, August 22nd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, August 23rd at 10 AM with Pastor Sharon Colisino officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
