Carl Osborne

Carl Michael Osborne, 71, of Oakland, passed away on January 22, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.  Born in Tazewell, VA, he was a son of the late Carl Mayborn and Mae Elizabeth (Hale) Osborne.  

After graduating from Tazewell High School, he went on to work, and also retired as a Range Supervisor from the Department of Defense at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.  His hobbies stemmed mostly from the outdoor life, and included fishing and hunting, golfing, playing softball, throwing horse shoes, and he also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and poker.  

He is survived by his loving partner of 30 plus years, Betsy McDonnell; three sons, Carl Michael Britton Osborne and Becky, of Florida, Matthew Allen Osborne and wife Jessica, of Aberdeen, MD, William Smith and wife Tina of Bel Air, MD; five grandchildren, Britton Osborne, Matt and Aaron Hardy, Sophia Chittum, Reese and Reed Smith; and six sisters, Ruthie, Sue, Elizabeth, Imogene, Carol, and Brenda, all of VA.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ulysses; and three sisters, Adele, Betty, and Peggy.  

Carl's wishes to be cremated will be honored and a memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
