Carl Cathell

Carl Mitchell Cathell, 89, of Oakland died on Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Cherry Hill Assisted Living in Accident. Born on December 1, 1926 in Rowlesburg, WV, he was the son of the late Clarence Mitchell and Gladys Emma (Sinclair) Cathell. He was a veteran of both the United States Army and Air Force having served in the Philippines and Hawaii during World War II. Prior to retirement, he had worked for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and CSX Transportation as a signal maintainer. He was a long-time member of the Lakeside Assembly of God and a member of the Garrett County Historical Society as well as the American Legion Post #71 in Oakland. He enjoyed wood carving, bottle collecting and genealogy and as part of that interest, he and with his wife, Dorothy, had recorded many of the graves in Garrett County. He is survived by two sons, Carl M. Cathell, Jr. and wife Kayla A. of Oakland and David W. Cathell and wife Jill of Gardners, PA; grandchildren, Matthew Cathell, Katie Cathell, Brian Cathell and wife Caroline and Daniel Cathell and wife Desiree; great grandchildren, Colton and Lillian Cathell; and a sister, Catheline C. Martin of Dillsburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy E. (Bernard) Cathell, on April 5, 2016 and a brother, Robert D. Cathell. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, July 23rd from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, July 24th at 1 PM with Pastor Dennis Caton officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
