Bruce Helmick

April 18, 1931 — February 9, 2015

Bruce McClure Helmick, 83, of Gormania, WV, died on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland. Born on April 18, 1931 in Barnum, WV, he was the son of the late Joseph McClure and Katie Ellen (Nelson) Helmick. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War and achieving the rank of Staff Sargent prior to discharge. He retired from General Motors in Baltimore after 30 years of service. Bruce was a devoted member of the Bayard Church of God. In addition to spending time with family, he enjoyed collecting bottles and antique glassware as well as gardening. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Wilda Mae (Brown) Helmick; two sons, Bruce E. Helmick and wife Debbie of Pasadena, MD and Joey Helmick of Mtn. Lake Park; three grandchildren, Courtney Helmick, Troy Stanley and Trevor Stanley; three great grandchildren, Adrian, Jonas and Ella; a sister, Shirley Kent and husband Emory of Gormania, WV; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin Paugh, Bill Helmick and Chuck Helmick and two sisters, Frances Kitzmiller and Mary Haupt. Friends will be received at the Bayard Church of God on Wednesday, February 11th from 10 AM to Noon after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Phillip Marcum officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Bayard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bayard Church of God, 4 Spruce St., Bayard, WV 26707. The Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is handling the arrangements.
