Betty Jo Swauger, 90, of Grantsville, completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She has joined her beloved husband Don to welcome the blessings of their Lord and Savior, after 44 years of being apart.
Born on March 13, 1930, in New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Sam & Emma (Kamp) Otto. She was the last surviving sibling of her family, being preceded in death by her sisters, Eileen Merrill, Bernice Kenney, Grace Shunk, and brothers Lorraine, Odel, and Willard.
Betty Jo was a beautician for 70 years, owning her own shop, and eventually establishing a dress shop. Her clients were a beloved part of her family.
She personified her Christian faith by the way she lived her life. She attended Grace Community Church, where she was a member for 70 years. She loved to sing and served on many committees over the years. She was always eager to prepare a homemade meal to share with many.
She lost the love of her life in 1976, and her inner strength allowed her to dedicate her years to being her family’s role model.
She is survived by her deeply saddened family that includes one son, Michael Swauger and fiancée Teresa Feck; and one daughter Donna Jo Brenneman and husband Lynn; all of Grantsville. She is also survived by the joy of her world, her grandchildren, Cody Brenneman (Chelsea), Brooke Smith-Vereen (Jeff), Trey Brenneman (Wendy), Lacey Foster (Ryan), Derek Brown, Devin Brown, and great-grandchildren, Tyree, Gavin, Issac, Easton, Bear, Paisley, Gracie Jo, Jasper, Oliver, Aiden, Alexis, Leah, Dominick, Caleb, Cameron, Zach, and Mia.
Friends will be received at Grace Community Church in Grantsville, MD on Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 1 to 4 PM after which a funeral service will be held with Matt Widder officiating. Private interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to the entire staff of Hospice of Garrett County and special friend, Margie Campbell, for their compassionate care of Betty Jo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Garrett County or Grace Community Church.
The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is honored to be assisting the Swauger family.
