Betty Stemple

January 10, 1938 — December 8, 2014

Betty Lucille Stemple, 76, of Oakland went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8, 2014 at her home. Born on January 10, 1938 in Crellin, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Alice (Bowser) Wilson. She was a graduate of Southern High School and Zion Bible Institute. Sister Betty was an ordained minister who, along with her husband, ministered in the following churches: Burlington Assembly of God, WV; Maple Grove Assembly of God, Horse Shoe Run, WV; Faith Assembly of God, Petersburg, WV; Buxton Assembly of God, NC; Poplar Branch Assembly of God, NC; Glendale Assembly of God, Coalport, PA; Maranatha Assembly of God, Brownsville, PA; and Greenridge Assembly of God, Flintstone, MD. She was the coordinator of the Bible Relief Time program and coordinator and cook for House of Grace, both in Brownsville, PA. Upon their retirement, Betty and her husband moved to Oakland where they continued to give of their time and faith in local churches. In addition to spending time with her family, Betty enjoyed painting, playing Scrabble and studying the Word of God. Betty will be remembered as a teacher who was strong in her faith and who enjoyed sharing that faith with others. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Rev. James N. Stemple; children, Rev. James N. Stemple, II and wife Sharon of Keene, NH, Darlene Stemple and Philip Stemple, both of State College, PA, and Elaine Stemple of Oakland; grandchildren, Priscilla Squires and husband Kenneth, III and James N. Stemple, III and wife Jessica, all of Cumberland; great grandchildren, Kenneth Squires, IV, Serenity Squires, James N. "Nicky" Stemple, IV, Carter Stemple and Jace Stemple; and a sister, Wanda Norman of Fairmont, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Galen Wilson, Helen Shaffer, Samuel Wilson, Jr. and MaryAnn Hess. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, December 10th from 6 to 8 PM and at the Lakeside Assembly of God, 18012 Garrett Hwy., Oakland on Thursday, December 11th from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with her son, Rev. James N. Stemple, II officiating. Interment will follow in the Deer Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakeside Assembly of God, Children's Ministry, 18012 Garrett Hwy., Oakland, MD 21550.
