Betty Naylor

January 18, 1927 — November 28, 2015

Betty Y. Naylor, 88, of Oakland passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at her home. Born on January 18, 1927 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Milton L. and Genevieve (Taylor) Yingling. Betty grew up in DC and suburban Maryland. She was a 1944 graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring and was admitted to the University of Maryland later that year as a Pre-Med student. Her education was interrupted in March of 1945 when she became the war-time bride of a dashing young Ensign in the Naval Reserve. They moved to Miami when Art was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy and served as Engineering Officer on a mine sweeper along the Atlantic Coast. Betty and Art moved to Oakland after the war where their love story continued through 68 years of marriage. In addition to managing a household and raising three children, she worked for 13 years as a bookkeeper for Oakland Auto Parts. She also delivered meals on wheels, twice a month for 13 years. She enjoyed cross country skiing after work with Art. They both spent many hours exploring the local state parks. Later in life, she would walk miles with her husband and the family dogs. She developed a special connection with her grandchildren, closely following their accomplishments and becoming an active participant in their lives from sports to musicals. She is survived by three children, Janna Naylor and Shirley Knowles, Milton Naylor and wife Valerie and Paul Bartlett Naylor and wife Adele; grandchildren, Brittany Naylor Raffin and husband Andrew, James Arthur Naylor, Heath Lewis Naylor, Annika Summer Naylor, Tom Naylor and partner Connie, Rena Naylor and partner Kevin Louie, and Tabitha Naylor; great grandchildren, Joseph, Jordan, Xander, Isabelle and Amira Marie; a brother, Ronald K. Yingling and wife Tina; brother in law, Allen Naylor and wife Mary; dear friend and caregiver, Peggy Davidson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her cats, Yin and Yang. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur E. Naylor, on September 21, 2013. Friends are requested to please come celebrate Betty's life, with her family, at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, December 3rd from 6 to 8 PM and on Friday, December 4th from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 104 E. Center St., Oakland, MD 21550 or the Garrett County Humane Society, PO Box 115, Oakland, MD 21550.
