Betty Martin

October 23, 1932 — October 7, 2017

Betty Louise (DeWitt) Martin, 84, of Oakland, died on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Garrett Regional Medical Center.  Born on October 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Emma V. (Ashby) DeWitt.  Betty attended Oakland High School.  In her earlier years she was a clerk at Sturgiss Drug Store and at the Jackson Five and Dime.  She was also employed by the Board of Elections as a poll worker for several years in Crellin.  Betty was a homemaker who had the gift of hospitality.  She enjoyed cooking,  helping others in her kitchen and reading her Bible.  Her faith was one of the most important aspects of her life.  Betty was a charter member of the Crellin Assembly of God Church where she also sang in the choir.  She was a prayer warrior.  Betty is survived by her husband, Delano R. Martin; her children, Phil Martin of West Palm Beach, FL and Linda Martin of Oakland; a grandson, Ryan Martin; siblings, Clifford C. DeWitt and J. Robert DeWitt and wife Linda; a daughter-in-law, Frances Martin and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David K. Martin in 2007; and her siblings, Stanley W. DeWitt, Sr., Harold E. DeWitt, Marie E. Skipper, Loretta Sines, Wanda C. Steiding and Peggy L. McCartney.  Friends will be received at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, October 9 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 10 at the Crellin Assembly of God, 2220 Hutton Road, Oakland at 11 AM with Rev. A. Ray Beahm and Rev. William C. Skipper officiating.  Interment will follow in Friend Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the David K.
