Betty Kehoe

Betty (Miles) Kehoe, 84, of Oakland died on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on April 21, 1928 in Darnestown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William and Mamie (Ward) Miles. She was a 1946 graduate of Gaithersburg High School and also graduated from Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1950. She was a member of Phi Psi of Mu Phi Epsilon, an honorary music society. She taught music in a Montgomery County High School, in Maryland. Later, she became a Choir Director and Organist for the Ascension Episcopal Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. Betty had also worked as a secretary at the Pentagon with her older sister Dorothy. In 1954, she married Stirling Kehoe and, in 1960, they started a sporting goods business, built their own building and retired to Oakland, Maryland in 1980. She started several bridge groups and played the organ for many church services and numerous weddings and funerals. She is survived by her devoted husband, Stirling Vincent Kehoe; children, Debra Kehoe Barlow and husband Richard, David Stirling Kehoe and Donna Kehoe Groves; grandchildren, Allyson France and husband David, Zachary Barlow and wife Maryann, Kevin Kehoe, Courtney Kehoe, Wesley Groves, Ashley Groves and Jordan Groves; great grandchildren, Teagan France, Mckenna France, Beau Barlow, Beckett Barlow, Liam Hamje, Jayden Groves and Stella Groves; a sister, Dorothy Miles; and a brother, William Miles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Wells. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, March 25th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Immediately following, a private family memorial service will be held with Rev. Dr. Chip Lee and Rev. Manning Smith officiating. Private family interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Mrs. Kehoe's name to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 128 East Liberty St., Oakland, MD 21550.
