Betty Harvey

July 22, 1931 — March 28, 2017

Betty Faye Harvey, 85, of Oakland passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home with her loving family at her side. Born on July 22, 1931,in Sang Run,she was the daughter of the late George and Martha (Lytle) DeWitt. Betty and her late husband were proud owners and business partners of Harvey's Superette, currently known as Little Sandy's, for 31 years. Following the sale of the business in 1986, she worked at Dee Ann's, Oakland Train Station, Broadford Recreation Park and served as a Viva Volunteer at Garrett Memorial Hospital. Betty enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, shopping, working in her yard and attending church. She was an active member of the Sang Run United Pentecostal Church, Calvary Tabernacle in Accident and the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Chiefland, FL. She also enjoyed spending the winter months at the Oak Grove Village in Trenton, FL. She is survived by her three children, Judy Hartung of Wiley Ford, WV; Keith Harvey and wife Teresa, and Tracy Harvey all of Oakland; four sisters, Cleta Tasker and husband John, Wilma Rodeheaver and husband Dale, Barbara Peck and husband Ken, and Patsy Bower and husband Ron; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and numerous close friends and relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Dale Harvey in 1997; a brother, Gene DeWitt; and a son-in-law, Robert Hartung. Friends will be received at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 North Second Street Oakland, on Thursday, March 30th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and at the Calvary Tabernacle, 27893 Garrett Highway, Accident on Friday, March 31st from 10 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Pascal Crites officiating. Interment will follow in the Deer Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dennett Road Activities Department, 1113 Mary Dr. Oakland, MD 21550; Warm the Children, 108 S. Second St., P.O. Box 326, Oakland, MD 21550; or a charity of one's choice.
