Betty Masie Friend, 77, of Swanton, was escorted by the angels to her heavenly Father on January 1, 2013 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born on May 1, 1935 in Elk Garden, WV, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Myrtle (Lyons) Jones. She was a member of AARP, the Swanton Senior Citizen Center and attended the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Betty and Harland formerly resided in Glassport, PA for 54 years prior to moving back home to Swanton in 2003. She was a homemaker and a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harland "Buss" Friend; two daughters, Glenda Sharpless and husband Randy and Katherine A. Davey and husband Gary; two grandsons, Randall Sharpless Jr. and wife Chrissy and Harland Sharpless and wife Jennifer; four great grandchildren, Lauren, Kendall, Emily and Levi, all of Swanton; a sister, Anna Evans and husband Bill of Franklinville, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Kitzmiller and a brother, Ray "Sonny" Jones, Jr. Friends will be received at the BURDOCK-FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday January 3rd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Swanton on Friday January 4th from 10 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Gary Rankin officiating. Interment will follow in George Cemetery, Swanton. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2445 Mt. Zion Road, Swanton, MD 21561
