Betty Friend

Betty Jean (Harvey) Friend, 59, of Accident, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland. Born on May 1, 1955 in Keyser, WV, she was the daughter of the late George Stanley and Glendora Lee (Dunithan) Harvey. She was a member of the Glendale Assembly of God in Swanton and had previously served as their secretary/treasurer and as a Sunday School teacher. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Jean enjoyed reading, working both jigsaw and word search puzzles and tending to her flowers. She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Fred D. Friend; two stepsons, Fred R. Friend and wife Gail of Pittsburgh and Alan L. Friend of McHenry; grandchildren, Stephanie and Tatum Friend; sisters, Rosalie Harvey of Mt. Lake Park, Margaret Miller of Oakland, Janet Harvey of Collegeville, WV and twin sister, Sandra Gay of Bayard, WV; two brothers, Dale Harvey of Swanton and Randy Harvey of Mt. Lake Park; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nina May Harvey. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, May 24th from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 25th in the Glendale Assembly of God, Glendale Rd., Swanton at 1 PM with Rev. Paul Goldizen officiating. Interment will be in the Deep Creek Baptist (Thayerville) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, c/o Fred Friend, PO Box 124, Swanton, MD 21561.
