Betty Evans

August 23, 1925 — February 8, 2017

Betty Dolores Loar Evans, 91, of Oakland and formerly of Cumberland, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home. Born on August 23, 1925, at the family home in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late William St. Clair and Emily (Jones) Green. She was a 1943 graduate of Central High School. Betty had worked for F.W. Weber in Lonaconing and then for Grant's Department Store in Cumberland prior to being employed by the Allegany County Board of Education where she was enjoyed her work in special education classrooms for seventeen years. She was a member and former organist of the Midland Grace United Methodist Church. Betty's family was her life and she especially enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her loving daughter, Alana C. Winters and husband Joseph of Oakland; two grandchildren, Joell Marie Lyons and husband James K. of Cumberland and Alison Claire Welch and husband Todd S. of Westminster; great grandchildren, Hilary A. Lyons and fiance Peter Rosenberger of Harrisburg, PA, Ian J. Welch and Claire A. Welch, both of Westminster; nieces and nephews, Bonnie Harris, Darlene Crane, Richard Rennie, James Green and Ronald Rennie; a dear great niece, Renee Harris; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a special friend, N. Wayne Twigg of Cumberland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband and father of her daughter, Melvin Thomas Loar; second husband, Benjamin H. Evans; a brother, Alvin James Green; and a sister, Leah Elizabeth Rennie. According to her wishes, Betty was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Dennett Road Manor Activities Dept., 1113 Mary Dr., Oakland, MD 21550 or to a charity of one's choice. The C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
