Bentley Matthew Blythe, “Bentley the Brave”, age 4, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 15, 2018, at his home in the arms of his parents. Born on August 6, 2013 in Oakland, he was the son of Matthew Jason and Brandi Dawn (Shaffer) Blythe.
Bentley the Brave was a kind, loving, and happy child with an infectious smile. At only four years old he touched the hearts of thousands in our amazing community and beyond. His cheerful nature and positive attitude inspired people from all over the world. Bentley battler cancer for almost a year but that didn’t stop him from being a kid. He traveled to Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, and everywhere in between. He got to meet Mickey Mouse, Spongebob and many others at Disney World and Universal Studios. He even got to meet and play basketball with the Houston Rockets. He saw Elvis’s home, Graceland, visited many zoos and water parks, and so much more. He made friends everywhere he went, including his short time at Yough Glades Elementary School. Bentley loved his family and friends. He loved to feed and pet animals and make videos for everyone to enjoy. Most of all, he loved to watch Mickey and Spongebob on TV with his parents and play Minecraft with his sister.
In addition to his parents, Bentley is survived by his sister, Brooklyn Grace Blythe; maternal grandparents, Pam and Rocky Shaffer; paternal grandparents, Dave and Tammy Blythe; paternal great grandfather, Richard Blythe; two uncles, Scott Blythe and Bryan Shaffer; an aunt, Theresa DeWitt; cousins, Aubrey Blythe, Bryson Shaffer, Brielle Shaffer and Brayden Shaffer; and his loving and supportive Pre-K class from Yough Glades Elementary. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Patricia Blythe.
Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, June 18, from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held in the Loch Lynn Church of God, 8649 Gorman Road, Oakland on Tuesday, June 19, at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
Bentley’s family would like to extend a special Thank You to Cindy’s Fund, Brenda’s Body Shop, Yough Glades Elementary, Mettiki family, all who helped with the spaghetti dinner and the many organizations and charities that helped support Bentley and showered him with gifts and love.
