Barbara (Jenkins) VanMeter, 82, of Oldtown, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018, at home.
Born in Davis, West Virginia on July 26, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William and Eleanor (Bergstrom) Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy E. Davis; and her aunts that helped raise her, Elsie Bible and Eloise Bachtel.
Barbara was a registered nurse, employed at the Lion’s Center until her retirement. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Davis, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Davis High School, class of 1954. Following high school, she graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland in 1957.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Van Meter; daughter, Debra Howard and husband Patrick, Laurel, MD; sons, Roy Davis and wife Michelle, Plano, Texas, and Eric Davis and wife Renee, Oldtown, MD; grandchildren, Matthew Howard and wife Julia, Andrew Howard and wife Kristen, Sonya Davis and husband John Andrae, Sean Davis, and Tyler Popejoy; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Emma, and Magnolia.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, November 26, 2018, from 2-5 P.M.
Further visitation will be held at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Inc., 567 Thomas Avenue, Davis, WV, on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at Hinkle Funeral Home at 1 P.M. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Davis, West Virginia.
The family request those wishing to honor Barbara’s memory do so by making contributions to the Western Maryland Health System Home Hospice, 1050 Industrial Blvd., Suite 19, Cumberland, MD 21502, Attn: Candy Adams.
The family would like to extend their personal thanks to the caregivers from hospice, who provided Barbara with compassionate care.
