Oakland

Barbara R. Lee, 88, of Oakland died on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the Goodwill Retirement Community in Grantsville. Born on July 26, 1929, in Terra Alta, WV, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Pulliam) Calhoun. In her earlier years, Mrs. Lee had served as a secretary for the Aurora High School and elementary schools and had worked at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Her most important job, however, was that of a farm wife and mother who cared deeply for her family. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oakland and was, for many years, a loyal member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to caring for her family and community, she enjoyed sewing, poetry, baking and canning. She will be fondly remembered for the lovely quilts and crocheted items she crafted. She is survived by two children, B. Dianne Winter and husband Alvin of Leesburg, FL and Gregory C. Lee and wife Katherine of Oakland; three grandchildren, David J. Lee, Cpt. USMC, Anneliese Lucier and husband Charles, and Erin Kaspar-Frett and partner Melissa; great grandchildren, Brooks, Jacques, Emmett, Maya, Bronwyn and Raven; a brother, David Calhoun and wife Arlene; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph M. Lee, in June of 2017; two sisters, June Connolley and Wanda Hauser; and two brothers in law, Donald Connolley and Clayton Hauser. Private interment was in the Aurora Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 11 AM with Rev. Matthew Paugh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goodwill Retirement Communities, 891 Dorsey Hotel Rd., Grantsville, MD 21536 or St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 318 E. Oak St., Oakland, MD 21550. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland has been entrusted with arrangements.
