Barbara Higgins

Barbara E. (Richardson) Higgins, 92, of Oakland and formerly of Hanover died on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on April 9, 1923 in Vallejo, California, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Ruth Agnes (DeLaFontaine) Richardson. She was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during World War II. In addition to spending time with her family, Barbara loved horses and dogs. She enjoyed growing both indoor and outdoor plants, gardening outdoors and going for long walks. She is survived by a son, William C. Higgins, Jr. of Sykesville; a daughter, Sharon L. Schell and husband Richard of Southbury, Connecticut; grandchildren, Andrew C. Schell and wife Kathleen of CT, Matthew S. Schell and wife Amanda of SC and Amy K. Schell of NY; great grandchildren, Mason, Addison, Cameron, Jackson, Isabel and Heidi; and a sister, Ruth Ann Martin and husband Douglas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William C. Higgins, Sr., in 1996 and a son, Robert J. Higgins, in 1993. According to her wishes, Barbara was cremated and will be interred in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery alongside her husband. Barbara's family would like to extend a warm "thank you" to the nurses and aides who cared for her on the first floor at ONRC and also to the wonderful team from Hospice of Garrett County. The love and care provided to Barbara was beyond measure. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
