Arthur Adonis Beckman, 61, of Oakland died on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 26, 1951 in Oakland, he was the son of Betty E. (Weeks) Beckman of Oakland and the late Arthur E. Beckman. He was a graduate of Southern High School class of 1969. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He was in the family timber business for many years working alongside his brothers. His smile was contagious and as big as his heart. He was always willing to help others and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He was the co-owner of Beckman Trucking, Beckman's Variety Store and Beckman Lumber Company. He was a veteran of the Maryland Army National Guard and a member of the Elks Lodge #2481 in Oakland, Mt. Loggers Group, Mt. Top Cruisers Car Club, Beechwood Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Louise (Rodeheaver) Beckman; daughters, Connie S. Murray and husband AJ of Mt. Lake Park, Patty L. Plessinger and husband Charlie of Oakland, Tracy L. Glotfelty and husband Larry of Oakland, Donna Beckman of Oakland and an "adopted daughter", Rose Turney of Oakland; five grandchildren, Alisha Plessinger, Gracie Plessinger, Lindsey Murray, Chelsie Murray and Jeremy Murray; brothers, Larry W. Beckman and wife Pauline of Oakland, Kevin A. Beckman and wife Robin of Mt. Lake Park and Keith A. Beckman and fiance Emilie Bentley of Oakland; and sisters, Debra D. Finch and husband Robert of Mt. Lake Park and Mary Ann Murphy and husband Jeff of Oakland and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as Pallbearers will be his brothers Larry Beckman, Kevin Beckman and Keith Beckman, his son in-laws Charlie Plessinger and AJ Murray, cousin Doug Davis and serving as honorary Pallbearer will be his grandson Jeremy Murray. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, April 23rd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM and in the Pleasant View Baptist Church, Garrett Highway, Oakland on Wednesday, April 24thfrom 10 to 11 AM, at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Wally Weeks officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
