Arlene T. Morey, 90, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Budd Terrace, Atlanta, GA. She resided in Wesley Woods Towers, Emory University, Atlanta, and was formerly a long-term resident of Deep Creek Lake, MD. She was the wife of the late John H. Morey, who died in 2002. Arlene, born and raised in Rochester, NY, was the only child of Henry and Catherine Thompson. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Cornell Medical School in 1948 and worked as a registered nurse through her early married years in Wooster, Ohio, while husband John completed his undergraduate degree. Her occupation was as a homemaker, a full-time mother of three sons, and lifetime partner in support of her husband's teaching duties at Ohio Wesleyan and Hamilton Colleges and his responsibilities as president at Frostburg State and Muhlenberg Colleges. Throughout, Arlene also pursued a wide variety of personal activities, interests, and causes. She read avidly. She played the piano and enjoyed classical orchestral and chamber music. She traveled widely to view art and architecture and was a watercolorist herself; she was active publicly through League of Women Voters and Common Cause. Privately, she maintained a lifelong commitment to her religious faith. She served in the Vestry at Mediator Episcopal Church in Allentown, PA, the Altar Guild at St. Matthews in Oakland, MD, and regularly attended St. Bartholomew's in Atlanta, GA. Arlene is survived by three sons, John H. Morey of Raleigh, NC, Mark Morey and wife Karen of Fairfax Station VA and James Morey and wife Lynn of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren, Robin, Elena, Karina, Aidan, Catherine, Sarah and Emma. A funeral service will be held in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 126 E Liberty St., Oakland on Wednesday, March 22nd at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church or Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew St., Allentown, PA 18104.
