Alvin Pennington

Alvin Dale Pennington, 76, of Bayard, WV died on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland. Born on March 27, 1939 in Wilson, WV, he was a son of the late Terry William, Sr. and Ethel Virginia (Hanlin) Pennington. He was a logger by trade, a member of the Bayard United Methodist Church and the Mt. Top Hunting Club. In addition to spending time with his family, Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He is survived by a stepson, Charles Overton of Bayard; a stepdaughter, Trudy Gaither and husband Allen of Bayard; grandchildren, Carrie Slaubaugh and husband James, Jessica Gaither and Noah Gaither; great grandchildren, Trevor Kitzmiller, Cole Kitzmiller, Candace Slaubaugh, Hunter Gaither and Chanda Gaither; brothers and sisters, Nina Whitehair and husband Denver of Silver Lake, WV, Alice Artenchie and husband Dan of Bayard, George Pennington and wife Anne of Corinth, WV, and Terry Pennington, Jr. and wife Joyce of Mt. Storm, WV; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aggie M. (Gritts) Pennington, in 2011; a stepson, Stephen Overton; a brother, Melvin Pennington; and two sisters, Ruth Beckman and Mary Lou Pennington. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, June 1st from 4 to 7 PM and in the Bayard United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 2nd from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor William McCallister officiating. Interment will follow in the Bayard Cemetery.
