Alvin Gordon Friend, 88 of Oakland, MD died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at his residence.
Born September 3, 1921 in Swanton, MD he was the son of the late John H. and Laura (Uphole) Friend. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Delbert, Reuben, Paul, Cecil and Raymond Friend; and by one sister Lavina Uphole.
Mr. Friend was a retired auto mechanic.
Surviving are two sons, Alvin Friend, Jr. of Eldersburg, MD, John Kenneth Friend of Greenbelt, MD; three daughters, Sandy McIntyre of Springfield, VA, Mary Ann Fink of Pittsburgh, PA, Diana Young of Roanoke, VA; one brother, Melvin Friend of Swanton; seven grandchildren, Bill, Donna, Karen, Joe III, John, Charles and Robert; and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland, MD on Saturday March 13, 2010 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
Funeral services are on Sunday March 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment will follow in Friend cemetery.
Memorials donations may be made in Alvin's name to Garrett County Hospice.
