Alonzo Ray Simmons, 88, of Horse Shoe Run, WV passed away May 5th, 2015 at Cortland Acres.
He was born July 8th, 1926 in Erwin, WV a son of the late Calvin Alexander and Myrtle Ellen Lipscomb Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Aldine Simmons, 1 son, Allan (Deborah) Simmons, Eglon, WV, 7 daughters, Catherine (Art) Arden, Springfield, VA, Gloria (Jerry) Gilpin, Falling Waters, WV, Norma (Dave) Fitts, Gainesville, VA, Rosalie Hedrick, Davis, WV, Sheila (Carl) Elliott, Aurora, WV, Tammy (Dave) Kailey, Fairfax, VA, and Debra Simmons, Augusta, WV, 1 sister, Pearl Moats, Kingwood, WV, 17 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Mr. Simmons was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. He enjoyed farming and hunting.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Friday, May 8, 4-7 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 9, at Brookeside Church of the Brethren with Rev. Scott Rush officiating. Interment will follow in the Dumire-PiferCemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
