Alice "Odette" Huntington Lueck died peacefully in her home at Deep Creek Lake, on November 18, 2023. Odette lived a full 85 years and died from cancer relatively swiftly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Alice "Oddie" Kingsley, and her husband, Roger Lueck. A Celebration of Odette's Life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local charities such as HART for Animals or the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake State Park.
She is survived by her partner, Harry Dawson; her children, Brock Lueck and wife Becky, and Paige Havens and partner Peter; four grandchildren, Taylor, Jack, Molly and Annie; as well as one great grandchild, Radley.
Odette was born in Rutherford, New Jersey but spent the majority of her childhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Ohio University in 1960. She moved to Bowie, Maryland with her husband Roger in 1962, where she had her two children and a successful interior design business in the Washington D.C. area for over 40 years. In addition to her business, Odette was an active member of the American Society of Interior Designers in capacities such as a national fellow, chapter president, campaigner for professional licensing, and was instrumental in setting up the Society's first model of professional development.
Odette loved the outdoors and spent much of her free time with family and friends skiing, sailing, hiking, and camping. She and her family travelled regularly with close friends from Cumberland and beyond, but Deep Creek Lake was where she always returned to, retiring there permanently in 2000. She devoted her time and energies to local charities such as the Dove Center, HART for Animals, the Discovery Center, and helped launch the yearly Art in the Park program. She and her partner, Harry, remained fit, active, and seeking new experiences until her untimely illness. She will be dearly missed.
