Alice K. Baker, 89, of Parsons, WV, formerly of Oakland, died on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at her home. Born on December 19, 1923 in Swanton, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Minnie Knox. She was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. Alice was protestant by faith and enjoyed sewing quilts, embroidering, making pot holders and gardening, especially tending to her flowers. She is survived by four children, Junior Bowman and wife Barbara of Cumberland, Wilma Armstrong and companion Don Mayne of Eglon, WV, Wilda Henline of Parsons, WV and Mary Scarlavi and husband Richard of London, KY; nineteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; twenty six great great grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve Friend of Swanton; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Elmer Baker and Woodrow Bowman; a son, Allen Bowman; son in law, Irvin Henline; seven brothers; and five sisters. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, March 27th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, March 28th at 11 AM with Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
