Alexander Mahood

Alexander Maitland Mahood,78 of Beckman's Peninsula, Deep Creek Lake, died Wednesday Jan. 26,2011 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.

Born April 4, 1932 in Charleston, WV, Alex was the son of the late, Alexander M Mahood, SR. and Gladys Evangeline Shumate Mahood. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. William Henderson Mahood.

Alex graduated from Charleston High School in 1950 and joined the Army in 1952 and served in Korea for 14 months and was honorably discharged in 1955. He returned to West Virginia University and in 1959 received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He worked for the United States Steel Corporation from 1959 to 1984. He retired as Assistant Superintendent of Blast Furnace Operations at the Edgar Thompson Works in Braddock, PA.

After moving to Garrett County in 1985, he went to work with the A.D. Naylor Co. in Oakland, MD. He was Project Engineer in the Contracting Department. He retired in 2008. Alex was a member of the Proctor Kildow Chapter of the American Legion, the VFW, the Deep Creek Lions Club and a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church, Deer Park, MD.

Surviving is his wife of 29 years Margaret McGuire Mahood, his children: Katherine Kilmer Rodriguez Mahood, Sara Straley Mahood, Elizabeth Hanna Mahood Andrews, David Craig Savage and Laura Kathleen (Savage) Natale. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Mackenzie, Hanna, Duncan, Madeleine, Isabelle, and Daniel.

At his request, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Deer Park, MD on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 am.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Foundation or St. John's Episcopal Church, Deer Park.

Military honors will be accorded by Local Veteran's Organizations.
