Walter Weir Pollard, III, 90, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. Born August 15, 1926 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Walter Weir Pollard, Jr. and Eleanore Fontaine Skyles Pollard; the older brother to the late Douglas Pollard survived by his wife, Frances Pollard and his late sister Billie Pollard. Weir and the love of his life of 59 years, Hildegarde Rich Pollard, are longtime residents of Hagerstown, MD where they built a beautiful life with their loving children Walter Weir “Tiger” Pollard, IV and Tacy Pollard Myers. Weir honorably served his country in the American Field Service as an ambulance driver in World War II. After his service, he worked as a successful stock broker for over 50 years and retired from Wells Fargo. He also served as a board member of Saint James School for many years where he attended high school. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Hildegarde Pollard; his son, Walter Pollard, IV and wife Connie of Arlington, VA; his daughter, Tacy Myers and husband Sammy of Clear Spring; his grandchildren, Lydia Myers, Bradley Pollard and Max Pollard. Weir will be buried in the place most near and dear to his heart in Oakland, MD next to his family. As a child, he spent his summers in Mountain Lake Park, MD near Oakland, where the family has owned a summer home for 100 years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Saint James School in Hagerstown, MD at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that donations be made to the Saint James Scholarship Fund, St. James School, 17641 College Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
